This berry fruit salad is a combination of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, all tossed in an easy honey lime poppy seed dressing. This berry salad is a must-make for all your summer celebrations!
Berry fruit salad is the perfect side dish for a potluck or picnic. I make this summer berry salad at least once a week while berries are in season and inexpensive. It’s a great way to get your kids to eat their fruit.
Berries are always a popular hit when it comes to a snack or side dish. This berry fruit salad is no exception. With a ton of fresh berries including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries, everyone will come running for seconds.
How Do You Make Berry Fruit Salad?
Making this summer berry salad is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Simply slice your strawberries and toss them into a bowl with all the other berries. Mix your dressing ingredients in a secondary bowl, then pour over the berries. I like to use a variety of berries for optimum flavor and texture.
This berry summer salad can be made up to 4 hours in advance. However, keeping it in the fridge until you serve it is suggested in order to keep the berries fresh. If the berries stay warm for hours, the berry fruit salad isn’t as inviting. Eventually, the berries may start to break down a bit in the acidic dressing if you wait too long to serve it.
Changing up the flavors is a fun way to make this berry fruit salad your own. Swap some of the berries out for other summer fruits such as melon or cherries. I like to add watermelon, or sometimes I go a little tropical and add fruits such as mango, pineapple or kiwi.
Is Fruit Salad a Dessert?
Fruits are commonly sweet. Just because they’re a fruit doesn’t mean they don’t make a perfect dessert option. Further, choosing fruit for dessert is a healthier option. The honey lime poppy seed dressing only adds an extra level of sweetness making it the perfect recipe to cover both a dessert and a side dish.
Does Mint Belong in Fruit Salad?
Mint is a delicious option to add to your berry summer salad. The mint’s strong flavor mixes flawlessly with the sweetness of the fruit therefore, adding a unique flavor combo. Fresh mint can be quite strong, so start with a small amount and then taste your salad before you add any more mint into the mix.
There are endless options that can be added to your salad. Some of my favorite add-ins are:
- lime zest
- sliced almonds
- whipped cream
- shredded coconut
- crystallized ginger
This berry fruit salad is the ultimate summer salad. It takes just minutes to whip up, and no one can resist a pile of fresh summer fruit! The honey lime poppy seed dressing turns an ordinary fruit salad into an extraordinary side that is sure to get rave reviews.
