About Peach Caprese Bites

Whether you’re in the middle of peach season or simply love trying all things caprese, these peach caprese bites offer a refreshing twist on a classic dish. It combines the sweetness of ripe peaches with the beloved Caprese trio of creamy mozzarella, tangy balsamic, and fresh basil leaves.

What ingredients are in peach caprese bites?

Before you can serve up your own tray of this sweet spin on classic caprese bites, you’ll need to round up the following ingredients:

  • Basil Leaves: Add a fresh, herbal contrast to the sweet peaches, enhancing the overall freshness of the dish.
  • Peaches: Taking the place of tomatoes in this caprese, peaches add natural sweetness and juicy texture offer a delightful contrast to the savory mozzarella.
  • Mozzarella Ball: Provides a creamy and mild flavor, balancing the sweetness of the peaches and the freshness of the basil.
  • Balsamic Glaze: This sweet and tangy glaze complements the peaches and adds depth to each bite, tying all the flavors together.

What else can you add?

To make these peach caprese bites your own while still staying true to the caprese theme, you can try adding any of the options below:

  • Prosciutto: Include a small strip of prosciutto for a salty, savory element. Measurement: About 1-inch strip per bite.
  • Fresh Mint: For a refreshing twist, swap out a basil leaf with mint. Measurement: One leaf per bite.
  • Cracked Black Pepper: A sprinkle on top for a bit of spice. Measurement: To taste.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: A classic for true caprese. A light drizzle can add richness. Measurement: A few drops per bite.

Can You Make Them in Advance?

Yes, you can prepare peach caprese bites in advance. However, it’s advisable to drizzle the balsamic glaze just before serving to keep the peaches and basil vibrant and fresh.

For the best presentation, plan on making them no more than 24 hours before serving.

How Long Are They Good For?

While these peach caprese bites are best enjoyed fresh, they can also be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 days.

Can You Freeze Them?

Bad news here, guys. The process of freezing and thawing significantly alters the textures of both the peaches and mozzarella, so I can’t recommend freezing these peach caprese bites. For best results, plan on enjoying them while they’re still fresh.

Notes & tips for peach caprese bites

  • For best results, choose peaches that are ripe but still somewhat firm. This will ensure that they hold up well on the toothpicks with the other ingredients.
  • This recipe is designed to be served hors d’oeuvre style, with the ingredients threaded on a skewer. I chose to layer the ingredients in an order that emphasizes the basil leaves (basil, peach, mozzarella, peach), but feel free to create any order or combination that you’d like.
  • You can also cut the individual pieces smaller and thread multiple layers on the same toothpick.
  • For a different presentation, these same ingredients can also be sliced thinner and served flat on a serving plate like classic caprese.
  • Peach season is the best time to make this recipe! For most of the US, this would be between July and September. For southern states like Georgia and Florida, peach season can start as early as May.
