With all the different spice seasonings on the Tortilla Channel, this one was missing. But there are so many recipes that need some great ranch in them. So, are you ready to learn how you to make homemade ranch seasoning? Let’s get started!

What You Need For This Recipe

To make this ranch seasoning mix you need at least the following ingredients:

  • Dried parsley
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried onion flakes
  • Dried chives or dill
  • Ground black pepper
  • Salt

Optional

  • Powdered buttermilk

This ranch seasoning is great without powdered buttermilk. Adding milk powder makes the ranch seasoning less strong in flavor.

You can easily omit the milk powder so this ranch can also be eaten if you are vegan or lactose intolerant. I like it without the milk powder.

Note that the full ingredients list, including measurements, can be found in the recipe card below.

Ingredients for making a ranch seasoning.

How To Make Homemade Ranch Seasoning

  1. This homemade ranch seasoning mix consists of spices and dried herbs. Regular ranch seasoning calls for dill herbs.
  2. When I made my ranch a while ago, I didn’t have dill on hand I substituted it for chives. I loved the result so now I always make my ranch seasoning recipe with chives.
  3. But feel free to use dill.
  4. As the size and structure of the spices and herbs vary you have two options:
    • Mix by hand – measure all the ingredients put them in a bowl and stir the herbs and spices together until all of the ingredients are properly mixed.
    • Mix by machine – Take a spice grinder, blender, or kitchen machine and add all the ingredients. Pulse a couple of times. This will result in a more even structure to your spice mix.
  5. Put it in a small glass jar and you are ready to use your homemade ranch seasoning.

Use Your Ranch Seasoning With

This ranch seasoning mix is very versatile. Use it with:

  • Turkey ranch tortilla pinwheels – great snack with cream cheese ranch and turkey
  • Yogurt dip – take some yogurt, add some finely chopped red onion and this ranch seasoning. Great with some homemade potato chips
  • Oven-baked chicken – rub some ranch seasoning on your chicken and grill them in the oven
  • Ranch fries – instead of Mexican seasoning substitute for ranch seasoning and you have some pretty tasty fries.

How To Store Ranch Spice Mix?

The best way to store this seasoning mix is to put it in a glass jar or an airtight container. Store it in a dry and dark place like a kitchen cabinet or pantry.

However, do not store it in the fridge or freezer as moisture can get into the seasoning. Never store seasoning in the full sun.

It will have an effect on the color of the seasoning and the taste.

Easy Ranch Mix Recipe

If you are still buying ranch seasoning at the store, I have good news for you. There is no need to because it is so easy to make this seasoning yourself.

I’m sure if you take a look in your kitchen cabinet you have most of the ingredients you need. It is all about measuring the right amount and mixing it all up.

An added advantage of making spice mixes is that it is so much cheaper than buying these packets. There will not be any additives in your homemade ranch seasoning. Which I think is a bonus.

It is really hard to determine why you would need preservatives in a seasoning mix. Especially one that you can keep in your kitchen cabinet for months.

Your recipe on ranch seasoning blend looks very easy,I have some of the spices that the list calls for, except the parsley flakes,or onion flakes or where do you buy powdered buttermilk powder at? And also, could this seasoning be used to make ranch fried chicken or ranch flavor meatloaf too?

      George,

I buy my ingredients at the supermarket. Dried parsley is sold in almost every supermarket. Dried onion flakes can be more challenging but just like buttermilk powder can be found online. You can substitute buttermilk powder for milk powder.
Yes, you can make ranch fried chicken with this seasoning but you also need all-purpose flour. Yes, you can make flavor your meatloaf with this seasoning.

Thank you for having a recipe without dill. My sister is deathly allergic to dill and I’ve been having a hard time finding a good substitute ranch seasoning recipe for when I cook for her. You’re a life saver!
