PAN FRIED BANANAS

Recently I’ve been having a few health issues and my doc had recommended I avoid all simple sugars for a little while.

A little while being SIX MONTHS!

It wouldn’t be a big deal if it were just sugars like the regular white version but it also means kinds like maple syrup and honey. This is proving to be a tad difficult. I’m a food blogger heading into the holiday season. Cookies, treats, and all things roasted with maple are high in demand.

Enter these Fried Bananas.

INGREDIENTS FOR HEALTHY FRIED BANANAS

Here is the breakdown for what you will need to make this easy recipe:

  • bananas (not ripe!)
  • butter (you could use Earth Balance or coconut oil if you wanted to make this vegan)
  • cinnamon
  • vanilla

Luckily, I still can enjoy fruit! I can also treat my self to butter, baby, so the search was on. I found this fried banana recipe and adapted it to skip the honey so it would be simple sugar-free. In went some vanilla instead to add some warm flavour.

If you are wondering is fried banana good for your diet, I’m here to say yes! Letting the natural sweetness of the banana shine through means no extra sugars are necessary.

Can you tell me a sweeter combo than bananas fried all crispy and nice in a little bit of brown cinnamon vanilla butter? I don’t think you can. 😉

TIPS FOR THE BEST FRIED BANANAS

These little beauties could not be easier to make! Brown the butter with the cinnamon and vanilla in a small skillet and when its bubbling add in the banana slices.

Normally, I like using really brown bananas in my treats but for this recipe, it is best to use unripe ones. You don’t want them green but a nice firm, bright yellow banana is ideal.

Too ripe of banana can make these a little mushy and you want them to be firm enough to brown and flip over.

How many calories are in a fried banana? A lot less in deep fried bananas, I’ll tell you that much! This recipe contains just over 200 calories in all its buttery glory.

Enjoy them as is, if you want a totally sugar free treat, or make them the crowning glory on a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Eating banana and cinnamon does have its benefits. Bananas are filled with potassium, a mineral that aids in the regulation of blood pressure, and cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory effects.

You can feel good about this snack.

Enjoy!
