Valentines Day: Rose and Pomegranate G&T’s

This post was created in partnership with 31 Dover. I know I’ve said this several times before, but I have a new way to drink gin and tonics. My new jam is to sub out some of the gin with a flavoured liquor (how much I switch out depends on the liquor) for a G&T with a twist. I spend a while adding a splash of Mighty Fine Things’ Plum & Cardamom Liqueur along with my house favourite Gin Mare, now we’re getting closer to Valentines Day I’ve switched to Edinburg Gin Distillery’s pretty pink new Rose and Pomegranate number.

I did a tasting of some of their flavoured liqueurs at a John Lewis shopping event I accidentally stumbled upon before Christmas and fell slightly in love with their Elderflower liqueur, which is everything you want from an elderflower liqueur, but with more of the taste of the hedgerow in it than more generic brands like St. Germain. This new flavour is light and fruity, floral and sweet without being overpowering. I think it is going to be fantastic splashed into pink champagne when we finally get out of this cold snap!

I ask you here not to skimp on the garnish. When I first tasted the liqueur I thought it had a nice rose flavour, with a sweet edge. It is when the pomegranate seeds that float to the top of your G&T (you’re using Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water, right) burst in your mouth every other sip where you get the burst of fruitiness, and can really taste the pomegranate in the liqueur. Oh, and did I mention that they’re really pretty?

Camilla Sniffing Roses

Camilla seemed to think the whole set up looked pretty, anyway. Every time I turned my back to fetch some glasses or to add or remove liqueur or spirit bottles from the shot up she’d hop to investigate my roses. And then, every time she realised I was taking pictures of her, she ran off to hide again (curled up in the pile of laundry I was sorting, on top of one of my cashmere jumpers. Expensive taste, this one!) The measurements below are for two drinks, because it is Valentines Day next Wednesday, after all!
