What You Need For This Recipe

To make this peach clafoutis recipe you need the following ingredients:

  • Fresh peaches

  • Regular sugar

  • Salt
  • Butter

I use the butter just to grease the skillet. There are versions of clafoutis where the batter contains butter or cream.

Ingredients for making a peach clafoutis.

How To Make Peach Clafoutis

  1. The base of a clafoutis is the batter combined with fruit. So, the easiest way to make the batter is in the blender.
  2. Put the flour, salt, sugar, and vanilla sugar in your blender. Add the eggs and milk and whisk it into a consistent batter.
  3. Scrape the sides of the blender if necessary. Make sure all of the flour at the bottom of the blender is combined with the batter.
  4. I always set the batter aside for at least 10 minutes. The same with pancake batter as well. This is to make sure the flour absorbs the liquid in the batter.
  5. Heat your skillet in the oven while it preheats to 500℉/250℃. Take the skin of the peaches, halve the peaches, and remove the pit.
  6. Thinly slice the peaches.
  7. Leave the skillet in for another 5 minutes before you take it out of the oven. Then put a tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
  8. Put all the halved and sliced peaches in the skillet and pour the batter on the peaches. Return the skillet to the oven.
  9. You have got to work fast to keep the skillet as hot as possible.
  10. Bake the clafoutis for 15 minutes at 500℉/250℃ then turn the heat down to 400℉/200℃ and bake for another 10 minutes.
  11. The edges will be puffed up a little and the middle will still be soft. Dust with some icing sugar and you are ready to serve.

Quick Peach Dessert Recipe

I know, clafoutis is a French bake or dessert recipe and should be made with cherries. But what do you do when you do not have cherries lying around and not into cherries from a can?

Indeed, then you take what you do have. I had peaches, so what better to do than make a fresh peach recipe?

That is what I did with this clafoutis recipe. There are many ways to make a clafoutis. It usually takes a medium heated oven and long baking.

With this recipe, you still get delicious clafoutis but in half of the time. The main reason why the baking time can be cut in half is that this recipe uses the baking technique of a Dutch baby.

You may not get an even clafoutis but the result and taste more than make up for that. I like the rustic feel this dessert has I hope you do as well.

Replacement For Vanilla Sugar

This recipe calls for vanilla sugar. We can buy it in the store but if you can make it very easily yourself. Vanilla sugar is what it says it is.

Sugar that is infused with vanilla aroma. If you have used some vanilla pods do not throw them away.

Take a jar to fill with sugar and stick the vanilla pods in the sugar. Close the jar and just leave it. If you do not have vanilla sugar, you can substitute it with vanilla extract.

In this recipe, I used 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar, which can be replaced with 1½-2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

The options with clafoutis are endless just look at these options and choose your favorite:

  • Cherry clafoutis – as this is the original ingredient, we start with cherries
  • Raspberry clafoutis – gives the recipe a sweet and sour taste to your clafoutis
  • Blueberry – sweet blueberries are a great substitute for cherries this recipe
  • Pineapple – Another great fruit to add to this recipe
  • Oranges – not used a lot but great in this cake dessert
  • Apple – make it with apple pie filling
