These Chicken Kathi rolls has its origin in Kolkata and now a days, you can find these Chicken Kathi roll/ Chicken Frankies eateries in most Indian streets. It is quite simple to prepare at home like Chicken Momos or Chicken Burger patties and you can use any filling like Chicken, meat, Paneer, Kheema or vegetables of your choice. Chicken Kathi roll or Kati roll is also known as Chicken Frankies or Kebab roll. There is even Chilli Chicken Kati roll, which is also very appealing. Will post that recipe soon. Fresh from pan – Chicken Kathi rolls are visually pleasing and will tantalise your senses in every delicious way.

You can make the wraps with ordinary rotis or Parathas. If you have left over Kebabs/ Chicken Tikka or Butter Chicken Masala, you can use it as well for making Chicken Kathi roll. Do check my Chicken Kebab, Tandoori chicken, Chicken Tikka pizza if you like kebabs. Usually, the street food vendors use a lot of oil while making the Parathas or Kati roll, making it unhealthy for regular consumption. I have used oil sparingly and have used nonstick Tawa to make Chappathis/ rotis, and recommend you to do the same, to avoid health issues.

This a great lunch box option for kids and adults alike. Check my Chicken Noodles, Tomato Pulao, Chicken Burger, Paneer Pulao, Sausage rolls, Crescent rolls, Chicken Pasta in white sauce, Tomato rice with coconut milk, grilled veg. sandwich, Fried rice, Honey chicken, chilli fish, Szechuan chilli chicken etc. for more lunch box options. It is certainly heartwarming to see those empty tiffin boxes and happy smiles!

  6. You can sprinkle little oil if required and take off the pan. Prepare all rotis this way.

Alternately, you can use little garlic sauce (Curd + Toum) to drizzle over the filling to make it extra delicious. Cover the wraps in Aluminium Foil or butter paper. If you are packing for tiffins, avoid onions. There- your Chicken Kathi roll is ready! Enjoy!

Tips:

  • You can use whole wheat flour alone for making Rotis or use parathas.
  • Roasting the chicken makes it firm yet soft.
  • Adjust the spices according to your taste.
  • When you cook the chicken, add 1 tbsp water if required; usually water oozes out from chicken and is sufficient for Kati rolls.
  • Check the link – How to make Garam Masala.
  • Some people add chat Masala, Mint chutney, Tomato sauce, Garlic Sauce etc. for toppings. Try till you get your perfect combination.
  • These are perfect for tiffin, lunch packs or even quick snacks.
  • Avoid adding pickled onions if packing for later use.
