A Breakfast Smoothie is a great way to start the day!

This episode is very special to us, because it’s Brody’s first solo video. I wanted to have more practice time with him, since all the previous videos were with other kids. It was great, and fun but he didn’t always listen because he was so excited and thought it was an extra special playdate. Another reason was that he always had ideas for the ingredients, so I wanted to explore that more with him. He loved making the smoothies. Also, this is how I got him eating more greens. I guess if they’re ok to drink, then they’re ok to eat! 🙂 Brody did suggest to add a little chocolate in this one, but then decided to keep it chocolate free. (our Chocolate Coconut Milk Smoothie is super delicious) The Breakfast Smoothie is simple, yet packed with healthy ingredients.
We added:
- plain yogurt
- kale
- banana
- frozen strawberries
- wheat germ
- granola

Breakfast Smoothie
What we love the most about this smoothie is it has good healthy ingredients that the kids are happy to eat including the kale. But we also change it up from a smoothie to a smoothie bowl by using less yogurt. This will allow for more thickness.
Brody is all boy, and will roar whenever he’s given the opportunity. Well this was one of those opportunities. He really does have fun, and that makes me super happy.
As you can see there’s simple ingredients. The base of this is great, because instead of strawberries just replace with pineapple, mango, of mixed berries. Make sure if you replace the fruit, you add frozen fruit or throw in some ice. I like to make the smoothies without ice, this way you get full flavor and thickness.
We called this the Breakfast Smoothie, but it also makes a great after school or anytime snack. You can add other ingredients to increase the protein, try adding almond butter, walnuts, hemp seeds, or sunflower butter. There’s lots of choices.
If you like this recipe, try some of our other smoothies. We always add an ingredient that boosts the protein and nutrients. Let us know if you give this a try, and leave us a comment below.
