Oreo and Fudge Chocolate Slice with Maltesers (no bake)

This Oreo and fudge chocolate slice was first published in April 2015 and appeared on my old blog, The Culinary Jumble. The recipe has been slightly amended and photos updated.

Every weekend I like to pull out all the stops and make something a little special. it invariably involves tons of chocolate, way too much sugar and bucket loads of butter.

This week was no exception – let me introduce you to heaven in the shape of a no-bake Oreo and fudge chocolate slice packed with crunchy Maltesers. And while we are on the subject of no-bakes, check out my recipe on YouTube for fridge cake. And no, it’s not the most professional video, but who cares?

This recipe is super flexible and the ingredients can be amended to suit your own personal tastes. For example, you can vary the amount of Maltesers and fudge as it won’t make any difference to the end product.

You can also use any chocolate. I’ve used white, dark and milk chocolate. This easy to make treat is not for the calorie counters among us, so if you are on a diet, perhaps you should avoid this one.  However, if you like to spoil yourself occasionally, and want to make something loved by everyone, you won’t be disappointed.

Substitutes for Maltesers

For those of you in places where you can’t buy Maltesers: poor you. Seriously though, all hope is not lost. Although Maltesers are inimitable amazing light balls of malty delight, a little research says that Whoppers are similar. For this recipe, they would absolutely work as a substitute. However, you could use whatever you like. Just chop it up, and throw it in.

Course Candy
Cuisine British
Prep Time 5 minutes
Chill (fridge) 3 hours

Ingredients

  • 150g (5¾ oz) Maltesers or Whoppers (with extra for decoration) - see note 1
  • 75g (2½ oz) fudge (chopped into small pieces)
  • 150g (5¾ oz) Oreos (crushed)
  • 75g (⅓ cup) butter
  • 2 tablespoons light or golden syrup
  • 200g chocolate (I used milk)

Instructions

  • Line a baking dish or try with tinfoil or grease-proof paper with an overhang: this will make it easier to lift the out when ready.
  • Crush the Oreos and pour into a bowl (I put them in a bag and bash them with a rolling pin).
  • Cut some of the Maltesers in half, and leave the rest whole.
  • Cut the fudge into small pieces, then add them to the crushed cookies.
  • Stir so that everything is evenly distributed.
  • In a large pan, gently heat the butter, syrup and chocolate, just until melted.
  • Add the dried ingredients, and stir until just combined.
  • Pour into the prepared tin, spread until fairly even, and push whole Maltesers gently into the top.
  • Leave in the fridge until completely hardened. Remove from the tin and cut up into small pieces (either squares or slices). Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Research tells me that although Whoppers and Maltesers are not quite the same, they can be used interchangeably for this recipe.

Disclaimer:
I have converted grams to cups/ounces/tablespoons using online converters. Although I have no reason to believe they are inaccurate, please be aware that I have not made the recipe with imperial measurements.
In addition, many ingredients are different in Europe compared to North America. I do all I can to offer possible alternatives and to ensure the best possible outcomes for everyone. However, results cannot always be guaranteed if you have not used the same ingredients, measurements or methods as me.
Lastly, I do everything I can to ensure that my recipes (and instructions) are accurate and easy to follow. However, I am human, and don't always get it right. If you notice anything strange, a mistake, or even a typo, please let me know in the comments.
