Sweet & Sticky Chicken Waffle Sliders

The combination of anything sweet and sticky will get the attention of anyone with a sweet tooth. Teaming it together with chicken and waffles to create my Sweet and Sticky Chicken Waffle Sliders is fun food at its best.

The chicken is amazingly crispy with the perfect crunch and the honey sauce tops it all off. There’s a little heat mixed in there as well serving as an element of surprise. Turn your meal into an adventure with this sweet and sticky dinnertime (or game day) treat. Chicken and waffles aren’t just for breakfast or brunch anymore.

How to Make Chicken Waffle Sliders:

Prepare the chicken. Cut each chicken breast into 3 even pieces. Season chicken with paprika. To one ziplock bag, add 1 cup flour in one bag. Add 1/2 cup flour, pancake mix, paprika, salt, and black pepper in the second bag. In a bowl, combine buttermilk and eggs. Whisk (paid link) together.

Fry the chicken. Heat a skillet to medium heat and cover the bottom of the pan with olive oil. Place the chicken in a flour-only bag and coat it well. Coat the chicken with the egg mixture, then the flour and pancake mixture. Cook chicken for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, then set to side.

Make the honey sauce. Heat a cooking pan to medium-low and add butter. Once the butter melts, add minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute, then add soy sauce, brown sugar, and honey. Add cornstarch, balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes, and flour. Stir until it binds and remove from heat.

Adding glaze to Sweet & Sticky Chicken Waffle Sliders

Pour honey sauce over chicken. Add chicken to a large bowl and pour honey sauce over the cooked chicken. Set to the side.

Waking waffle for Sweet & Sticky Chicken Waffle Sliders

Make the waffles. Add pancake mix, egg yolks, vanilla extract, nutmeg, ground cinnamon, buttermilk, and milk in a bowl. Whisk (paid link) together. Do not over-blend. Set the mixer to medium speed and beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold the egg whites into the pancake mixture.

Assemble. Prepare the waffles as instructed by your Belgium waffle maker. Removing the waffle from the waffle iron can get a little tricky so you will have to handle with care. Once cooked, place the chicken between two waffle triangles.

I made this for dinner last night I must say was absolutely delicious. However I think I put too much salt in the brine water and along with the salt that I added to the seasonings to put on top of the chicken it was way too salty.

Thanks for trying the recipe! My recipe doesn’t call for any salt, but glad you enjoyed it nonetheless. 🙂
