These tortillas are soft, tasty, pliable and so easy to make. Perfect to serve alongside your favorite fajita filling, from meat, poultry, or vegan. So, are you ready to learn how to make fajita tortilla? Let’s get started!
What You Need For This Recipe
But first, we have to assemble a shopping list and for this recipe, it is very short. Most likely you do not even have to go to the store. You need:
- Wheat flour or all-purpose flour
- Salt
- Baking powder (optional)
- Water
That is all you need.
Note that the full ingredients list, including measurements, can be found in the recipe card below.
How To Make Soft Fajita Tortilla
- Put flour, salt, and baking powder in the kitchen machine. Close the lid and mix the ingredients before slowly adding the water.
- Let the kitchen machine turn it into a consistent dough. If it is too sticky add a tablespoon of flour, if it is too dry add a small amount of flour.
- Take the dough out of the kitchen machine and knead it a little by hand.
- Then cut the dough into 8 pieces, roll them into golf ball-sized balls, and let them rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Roll the golf balls into a tortilla shape. Take a bowl or cooking ring and cut the soft fajitas tortillas into perfect shape.
- From the excess dough, you will be able to make at least 3 to 4 extra tortillas. So, 8 pieces of dough will yield 11 or 12 small tortillas.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet on middle-high heat and bake the tortillas for about 1 minute. You do not have any cooking products or oil.
- Flip and bake the other side for another minute. Take out of the pan and wrap in a clean kitchen towel.
- The warmth of the tortillas stacked on top of each other, makes the tortillas go soft and pliable.
- Besides using a ring to cut out the tortillas you can also use a tortilla press to get round tortillas. This works even with flour tortillas.
Just like with the Chinese scallion pancakes I’m using my kitchen machine to make these tortillas. If you do not own a kitchen machine, no worries you can make them by hand.
This soft fajita tortilla recipe is truly vegan. Doesn’t contain oil or dairy.
Small Tortilla Recipe
Usually, I make large tortillas for my taco, burrito, or enchilada recipes. However, when you prepare fajitas, the tortillas should be smaller to easily wrap, vegetables, or meat in them.
As homemade tortillas taste so much better it is only natural to also make them for your fajita recipes. When rolling a tortilla, it is almost impossible to get them perfectly round.
So, to make small round perfectly shaped tortillas use a cooking ring or a bowl to cut the tortillas.

How To Store Fajita Tortillas
When you make a big batch of tortillas you have several ways to store them:
- Room temperature – if you want to serve these tortillas within a couple of days you can use a resealable bag to store them and keep them fresh.
- Refrigerator – you can also store them in the fridge but tortillas usually get much dryer when stored in the fridge. Store them in an airtight food container for up to 3 or 4 days.
- Freezer – if you want to keep them longer the recommended method is to store them in the freezer. Put the tortillas in an airtight food container or a resealable bag and store them for up to 3 months.
How To Reheat Fajita Tortillas
When you want to use them again you have several ways to reheat a fajita tortilla:
- Oven – preheat your oven to 400℉/200℃. Wrap the tortillas in aluminum foil and when the oven is hot put them inside and warm for 7-10 minutes or until warm. The aluminum foil prevents the tortillas from going hard and keeps them soft and pliable.
- Air Fryer – as these tortillas are so small you can also reheat them in an Air Fryer. Preheat your Air Fryer to 375℉/190℃ for 3 minutes. Wrap the fajita tortillas in aluminum foil and heat for 5-6 minutes.
- Skillet – if you only have one or two tortillas to reheat you can use a cast iron skillet. Preheat the skillet on the stove to medium and add the tortilla to the pan. Heat for 20 seconds, flip, and heat again for 20-30 seconds. Serve immediately.
- Microwave – a microwave is also a simple way to reheat your tortilla. Put them on a microwave-safe plate. Dampen paper kitchen towels and layer them with the tortillas. Heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Check if the tortilla is warm else repeat for 10-15 seconds.
