Fried Camembert

Fried Camembert

Dipped in an egg – milk mixture and coated with bread crumbs, this fried camembert makes a great lunch or light dinner. Tastes great with a slice of  toasted buttered bread or green salad and of course cranberry sauce, which tone down the Camembert cheese flavor.

I recently lost my wallet with my electronic residence permit, driver’s license and co. on my way from the supermarket. The next day I went to report my loss to the police. When I returned home, I wanted to make something really quick, yet tasty.

I found myself standing in front of the fridge wondering what to make for lunch. I then discovered 2 Camembert cheese in the fridge, that were expiring the next day. So I ended up making fried Camembert, because I had everything I needed to make.

This perfectly cooked Camembert recipe is so tasty and so simple to prepare. On top of that it’s made with just a handful of simple ingredients: Camembert cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs milk and sunflower oil in under 10 minutes. Makes a perfect vegetarian meal.

Throughout the pictured recipe steps below, I’d like to show you how to prepare deep fried Camembert, which is normally served with cranberry sauce and buttered toast bread/ homemade bread/ baguette/ ciabatta or green salad. In my opinion, cranberry sauce is a must, otherwise the Camembert flavor will be more intense.

Here’s how to make fried Camembert cheese in less than 10 minutes.

Yield: 2 Servings

Prep Time: 4 min

Cook Time: 5 min

What you’ll need to make fried camembert recipe:

2 rounds Camembert cheese, approx. 150 g/ 5 oz each,

2 eggs

breadcrumbs

sunflower oil for frying

a dash of milk

cranberry sauce and 4 slices of toasted bread to serve

You’ll also need: two bowls

How to make breaded camembert

Pour breadcrumbs into one bowl. Crack the eggs into another bowl, add a dash of milk and beat until blended.

Dip Camembert into the egg – milk mixture, coating all sides.

Then coat the cheese with the breadcrumbs.

Place the coated Camembert on an extra plate to shake off the excess breadcrumbs

NOTE: You don’t a need large amount of oil, but enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.

Heat the oil in the pan at medium – high. Once the oil is hot enough, but not too hot, lower the heat to medium-low and fry Camembert (slowly) on both sides until nicely golden brown.

If the oil is too hot, the crust will burn, before the cheese is done. Fry the remaining egg-milk mixture (if you like).

Remove from the pan and place the cheese on a plate lined with paper towels.

Then transfer to serving plates and enjoy. I served it with toasted bread and Cranberry sauce.
