Amanda Powell | A Cookie Named Desire

There is nothing like these brown butter chai sugar cookies to make your day. These soft, chewy cookies are the pinnacle of cookie deliciousness.

It’s no secret that I am cookie obsessed. There is nothing I love more than a soft, chewy cookie at the end of the day. Is there any other way to end a long day? Nope, didn’t think so.

Lately, I’ve been craving all the sugar cookies and have been experimenting with different flavors. One of my favorites to come from this has been my brown butter chai sugar cookies.

These chai sugar cookies are out of this world amazing. They are super soft and chewy which is obviously mandatory for a good cookie. They are nutty because of the brown butter. Let’s be honest, brown butter makes everything better.

Then there is the warm chai spice. The balance of flavors is just so spot on for me and makes these cookies perfect for dunking in a hot cup of tea or coffee.

Usually, I love to make these brown butter chai sugar cookies for everyone for Christmas, but lately, I’ve been making these cookies year-round. There isn’t a time when I don’t crave a sweetly spiced cookie like this.

If you aren’t a fan of chai, you can always eliminate the spices. If you want a bit more flavor and something a little snickerdoodle-y, you can add cinnamon to the sugar you roll the dough into. Sometimes I will also add ginger and cardamom to the rolling sugar as well.

The dough is soft and you might be tempted to chill the dough in the refrigerator, but I highly recommend not allowing the dough to chill for more than 10 minutes if your cream cheese happens to have been super soft when you used it.

If you need to make the dough ahead of time, you will need to slightly press down your balls of cookie dough so they aren’t too puffy in the middle.
