Use this Sriracha Salt to add a kick of spice to any meat, seafood, or veggie recipes and add an oomph of flavor to your dish. It's also great on popcorn or to rim the glass of a spicy margarita. Your recipes NEED this spicy DIY flavored salt!
Sriracha salt
A "finishing salt" is typically a salt that you add to your dish right before serving, or when you're finished cooking. Adding salt at the end packs the most "oomph" as far as adding flavor and salty umami to your dish, as opposed to stirring salt into the dish as your cooking, which dissolves the salt.
We LOVE different flavor salts, but they can be pricy to buy (see this set, or this set on Amazon).
So I thought.... what seasonings do I typically reach for before digging into my food?
Sriracha and salt.
So why not make a sriracha salt so I can have it ready to use anytime?
This recipe couldn't be any easier—it takes about 2 minutes to mix together sriracha and sea salt. The only downside is you need to let it dry a little, so you get sriracha-flavored salt instead of soggy salt.
Ready to get started?
Ingredients
- ¼ cup coarse sea salt or kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
I like to use coarse salt so that it doesn't dissolve in the sriracha.

Recipe variation ideas
You can use any other hot sauce you like for this recipe. You can also add a squeeze of lime juice or a few drops of liquid smoke to the mixture. Just make sure to keep the ratio of salt to liquid about 4 to 1.
Instructions
Mix together the sea salt and sriracha. Spread it on a plate or a bowl and allow to dry for about 24 hours, stirring it every few hours. You can cover the salt with a paper towel so that you don't get dust on it while it dries.
See instructions below if you live in a humid climate.
Store in an air-tight container.
Baking sriracha salt to dry
This flavored spicy salt might be tricky to make if you live in a really humid climate, because it will take forever for the salt to dry on the counter. You can dry it in an oven or dehydrator instead. To dry it in the oven, set the oven temperature to about 175F-200F and dry for 10-15 minutes, or until the salt appears dry. Allow to cool before storing.
Sriracha salt uses
- We simply season ALL our foods with it! It's great on baked potatoes, on tacos, in guacamole, anywhere really!
- It's also a fun twist on any dessert that uses sea salt, such as sea salt caramel, dark chocolate sea salt cookies, etc. That spicy kick is definitely fun for your taste buds.
- Sriracha salt is amazing when used to rim the glass for spicy margaritas.
- It's great on popcorn.
- It's amazing on avocado toast, or on top of egg salad.
- Use it on salad - it would be great in this cucumber salad!
- Add it to homemade lox for a spicy lox.
- However, this salt really shines when serving with veggies or fruit. Yes, fruit!! Try a pinch of sriracha salt on a fresh mango slice, or some fresh watermelon.
